ICD-11 Set to be Released on January 1st of 2022

On June 18th, the World Health Organization (WHO) released the new International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11). ICD contains around 55,000 unique codes for injuries, disease and causes of death. ICD-11 will be presented at the World Health Assembly in May of 2019 for adoption with a planned effective date of January 1, 2022.

ICD-11 will be better able to capture data regarding safety in healthcare. This includes being able to identify and therefore reduce unnecessary events that may harm health. The new ICD includes the following new chapters:

  • Traditional Medicine
  • Sexual Health

The Zebu Team will be hard at work to guarantee a smooth transition into ICD-11.
